Sioux Falls Blizzard
The winter of 68-69 was the snowiest winter in history with 94.7 inches from 68-69 with a snowstorm on Dec. 21-22, 1968 of 17.7 inches. This storm caused 16.6 inches in 24 hours and snowdrifts up to 10 feet in the area. The snowiest winter on record turned the Big Sioux into a raging river in the spring of '69. Nearly 95 inches of melted snow fed the river's fury and caused the worst flood in Sioux Falls history.
